Tray Cable (TC) and PLTC Buyers in New York
Tray cable is the workhorse of industrial wiring: multi-conductor, 600 V, rated for installation in cable tray and, in TC-ER constructions, for exposed runs without conduit. When a plant reconfigures a line, tray cable is usually the first thing removed and the last thing inventoried.
WHAT WE REVIEW
Tray cable: what we review
We review tray cable from 18 AWG control sizes through 4/0 power conductors, in two- through multi-conductor constructions, with and without an overall shield, and in the sunlight-resistant and direct-burial variants that carry an ER or direct-burial rating. PLTC — power-limited tray cable — is reviewed separately because its 300 V rating and smaller conductors place it with instrumentation and fire-alarm work rather than power.
The single most useful photograph is the print on the cable jacket, because tray cable designations stack: a cable may read TC-ER, sunlight resistant, direct burial and 90°C in one line. Send that print unbroken. If the print is illegible, give the manufacturer’s part number from the reel tag, and note the conductor count and gauge from the cut end.
Formats accepted for review
- Full reels with legible tags and intact outer wrap
- Partial reels of a single part number
- Cut lengths from a line change or a removed tray run
- Shielded instrumentation tray cable
- Mixed part numbers on one pallet, sorted by tag
What to send
- The full jacket print, including ER, sunlight and burial ratings
- Conductor count, gauge and whether conductors are numbered
- Shield type — overall foil, braid or drain wire
- Reel tag part number, which resolves the rest when print is worn
No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

Send tray cable for review
Photographs of the reel tag and jacket legend are the fastest route to a review. Approximate footage is acceptable; a stated method is better than a confident guess.

Tray cable — questions sellers ask
Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.
Is TC-ER more useful than standard TC?
TC-ER carries an exposed-run rating that standard tray cable does not, which broadens where it can be installed. That makes it easier to place, and it is worth stating clearly when your material carries the ER marking.
Do you review cable removed from a tray?
Yes. Removed tray cable is quoted as recovered material, not as new surplus, and the difference is significant. Describe how it was removed, whether lengths are continuous, and whether the jacket print survived.
Can PLTC be submitted with tray cable?
Submit it in the same message but identify it separately. PLTC is a 300 V power-limited construction and is reviewed with control and instrumentation material rather than power cable.
WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL
Where this material usually comes from
Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.

Have tray cable to sell?
Send the tag, the jacket print and an approximate count. If the material is a fit, price and logistics are agreed in writing before anything is loaded.
