Full and Partial Wire Reel Buyers in New York

Most surplus wire in New York is not a clean pallet of sealed reels. It is a row of reels in a cage, half of them opened, some with tags and some without, and a facilities manager who wants the space back before the next audit.

Have full & partial reels to sell?

Start with one reel tag and one wide photograph. Footage can be estimated if the tag is gone — a stated method is better than a confident guess.

WHAT WE REVIEW

Full & partial reels: what we review

A partial reel is reviewed on the same facts as a full one: type, size, metal, voltage and footage. The difference is evidence. A full reel has a tag and banding; a partial reel may have a tag reading 1000 ft with 300 ft left, or no tag at all. In the second case, measure the wire pack diameter, count wraps over a known traverse width and multiply — the arithmetic is approximate but it is honest, and it is enough to start a review.

Mixed lots are welcome. Sort what can be sorted, photograph groups rather than individual reels when the count is high, and note anything obviously damaged or unidentified. We will tell you which parts of a lot are reviewable and which are not, and we will not pretend an unidentified pile is a documented inventory.

Formats accepted for review

  • Sealed reels with legible factory tags
  • Opened reels with known or estimated remaining footage
  • Partial spools of small-gauge building wire
  • Coils and boxed lengths in original cartons
  • Mixed aisles and cages of assorted reels

What to send

  • One wide photograph showing the whole row or pallet
  • One photograph per distinct reel tag where the count allows
  • A close-up of the jacket print on at least one reel per type
  • A note on which reels are opened and roughly how much remains

No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

REFERENCE

Full & partial reels — questions sellers ask

Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.

How do I estimate footage on a partial reel?

Measure the diameter of the wire pack, count the wraps across the visible traverse, and use the manufacturer tag as a reference for wraps per layer. State the method you used. An estimate with a stated method is far more useful than a confident number with none.

Will you review a mixed lot with no tags at all?

Yes, as unidentified mixed material. Expect a conservative review and additional questions. Many such lots are still worth quoting; some are not, and we will say which.

Do you buy a whole warehouse of reels in one transaction?

That is a common form of review, particularly for distributors and manufacturers consolidating space. It usually starts with a walkthrough inventory, a sample of tags and jacket prints, and a conversation about freight and loading before any number is put in writing.

WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL

Where this material usually comes from

Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.

BY LOCATION

Material is reviewed wherever it sits in New York State. City pages describe local patterns; the review process does not change by geography.
