MEDIUM VOLTAGE · 15 kV · 133% INSULATION · Cu TAPE SHIELD
Medium Voltage Cable Buyers in New York
Medium voltage cable is the most capital-intensive wire in most facilities and the least forgiving of a wrong assumption. We review 5 kV, 8 kV, 15 kV, 25 kV and 35 kV cable in copper and aluminium, with EPR or XLPE insulation and tape or wire shields — on documented footage only.
WHAT WE REVIEW
Medium voltage: what we review
A medium voltage construction is defined by more than its voltage class. Insulation level (100% or 133%), conductor shield, insulation shield, metallic shield type, jacket material and whether the cable is rated for direct burial or conduit all affect what it is and where it can be used. That is why a reel tag and a photograph of the full jacket legend matter here more than anywhere else: "15 kV cable" alone is not a material description.
We review new, unused reels with intact tags, and project overstock from substation and distribution work. Cable that has been terminated, spliced, pulled and removed is reviewed as recovered cable and requires an honest description of its service history. Reels with damaged outer jacket or visible shield corrosion are described as damaged, not folded into a clean count.
Formats accepted for review
- Sealed reels with legible tags and intact jacket
- Partial reels of a single construction
- Three-conductor assemblies with overall jacket
- Cut lengths from a substation or feeder project
What to send
- Full jacket legend: voltage class, insulation level, shield, jacket type
- Conductor size, metal and strand class
- Reel tag part number and manufacturer
- Jacket condition — cuts, UV damage, shield corrosion at the end
No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

Send medium voltage for review
Photographs of the reel tag and jacket legend are the fastest route to a review. Approximate footage is acceptable; a stated method is better than a confident guess.

Medium voltage — questions sellers ask
Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.
Why does insulation level matter?
A 133% insulation level cable is built with thicker insulation for grounded-system and long-run applications; a 100% level cable is used where the system and protection allow. They are not interchangeable, and a review that ignores the distinction is guesswork.
Do you review cable with cut ends and exposed shields?
Yes. Cut ends are normal on surplus feeder. Photograph the end face and the exposed shield so the construction can be read, and note how much jacket remains at each end.
Can medium voltage cable be shipped on the original reel?
That is the preferred form, because the reel protects the cable and carries the tag. Reels are loaded and secured as reels; loose coils of MV cable are difficult to transport without damage, which is part of why condition matters so much.
WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL
Where this material usually comes from
Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.

Have medium voltage to sell?
Send the tag, the jacket print and an approximate count. If the material is a fit, price and logistics are agreed in writing before anything is loaded.
