THHN and THWN Wire Buyers in New York

THHN and THWN-2 are the most common conductors in commercial construction, which makes them the most common surplus: the over-ordered reel at the end of a fit-out, the six reels a distributor could not return, the pallet left behind when a tenant improvement was value-engineered.

WHAT WE REVIEW

THHN / THWN: what we review

THHN is a thermoplastic, high heat-resistant nylon-coated conductor rated 90°C in dry locations. THWN adds a wet-location rating at 75°C, and THWN-2 carries 90°C in both wet and dry locations. Most modern product is dual- or triple-rated and printed accordingly, which is why the jacket legend matters more than the invoice description: a reel sold as THHN may legitimately read THHN or THWN-2 along the jacket.

We review THHN in 14 through 1000 MCM, in solid and stranded construction, and in the full range of insulation colours used for phase identification and grounding. Colour assortments are welcome. A pallet of ten colours in short lengths is a different review from ten reels of black 12 AWG, and we will tell you which one your inventory resembles before anyone talks about freight.

Formats accepted for review

  • Sealed 500 ft and 1000 ft reels in original packaging
  • Opened reels with readable footage on the tag
  • Multi-colour pallets from a single project
  • Boxed and coiled lengths in original cartons
  • Job overages sorted by gauge and colour

What to send

  • The full jacket legend, including temperature and wet/dry ratings
  • Gauge and strand count printed after the type designation
  • Colour, because a full colour set is easier to place than an odd single
  • Footage on the tag, and whether the reel has been respooled

No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

REFERENCE

THHN / THWN — questions sellers ask

Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.

Does the colour of THHN affect what you will review?

Colour affects usefulness rather than whether we will look. Black, white, red, blue and green move most readily; exotic colours in large quantity can be harder to place. Submit the whole assortment and describe the counts per colour.

What is the difference between THHN and THWN-2 for resale?

THWN-2 carries a 90°C wet-location rating, which makes it the more broadly useful product in modern work. A reel printed THHN/THWN-2 satisfies both. When the jacket print is worn off, say so — the reel tag is then the only evidence.

Will you review respooled wire?

Yes, with the caveat that respooled material cannot be verified as factory product and is quoted accordingly. Photograph the new reel, the jacket print and the tag you applied, and state clearly that it was respooled.

WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL

Where this material usually comes from

Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.

BY LOCATION

Material is reviewed wherever it sits in New York State. City pages describe local patterns; the review process does not change by geography.
