WELDING CABLE · 600V · SOOW · 6 AWG – 4/0 · FLEXIBLE

Welding Cable and SOOW Buyers in New York

Flexible cable is bought in a hurry and retired in a hurry. Welding cable and SOOW portable cord are the two most common flexible constructions in a New York shop, and both are reviewed on strand class, jacket condition and length rather than on age alone.

WHAT WE REVIEW

Welding & SOOW: what we review

Welding cable is a fine-stranded, flexible conductor — typically 6 through 4/0 — with a tough neoprene or EPDM jacket, rated 600 V. SOOW is a portable cord with service, oil, water and weather resistance, in 18 through 2 AWG, two- through five-conductor configurations. Both tolerate abuse, which is exactly why so much of it is still serviceable when a shop closes or a project ends.

The review turns on the jacket: cuts, exposed conductor, flattened sections from being run over, and jacket that has hardened in sunlight. Conductor condition is next, and it is usually good in flexible cable unless the jacket has failed. Send a photograph of the jacket print and one of any damage, and state whether the cable was in service.

Formats accepted for review

  • New coils or spools in original packaging
  • Serviceable used welding leads, measured
  • SOOW cut lengths from a site power distribution
  • Mixed flexible cable sorted by size and conductor count

What to send

  • Jacket print: welding cable, SOOW, gauge, conductor count, voltage
  • Strand class and conductor condition at the ends
  • Jacket damage — cuts, flat spots, hardening, exposed copper
  • Measured length of each lead or cut

No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

REFERENCE

Welding & SOOW — questions sellers ask

Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.

Do you buy used welding cable?

Serviceable used welding leads are reviewed, and the outcome depends on jacket condition and length. Cable with exposed conductor, deep cuts or hardened jacket is reviewed as recovered material rather than reusable cable.

Is SOOW with moulded ends acceptable?

Yes, but note the ends and photograph them. Moulded connectors are cut off before reuse in most cases, which affects usable length.

Can welding cable and SOOW be submitted together?

They can be submitted in one message if they are listed separately with their own lengths and sizes. They are different products with different buyers.

WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL

Where this material usually comes from

Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.

BY LOCATION

Material is reviewed wherever it sits in New York State. City pages describe local patterns; the review process does not change by geography.
