URD and USE-2 Cable Buyers in New York
Underground distribution cable is bought for a route, not for a warehouse. When a route changes, the reels stay: USE-2 and URD in aluminium and copper, single- and multi-conductor, direct-burial rated and often sunlight resistant as well.
WHAT WE REVIEW
URD / USE-2: what we review
URD — underground residential distribution — is the concentric-neutral or triplex/quadruplex assembly used between a transformer and a service. USE-2 is a single-conductor, moisture-resistant, direct-burial cable rated 90°C in wet locations. They overlap in application and are often confused in inventory lists, so the jacket print decides which one you have.
Both are reviewed on metal, size, conductor count and condition. Underground cable that has been in the ground and pulled back out is a different proposition from cable that never left the reel, and we will treat it that way. Tell us which one it is; there is no advantage in presenting recovered cable as new.
Formats accepted for review
- Factory reels in original wrap and banding
- Partial reels with documented footage
- Cut route lengths measured on site
- Triplex and quadruplex service assemblies
What to send
- The jacket print, which states USE-2, URD, direct burial and sunlight ratings
- Conductor count and whether a neutral messenger is present
- Size and metal
- Whether the cable has been buried and recovered
No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

Send urd / use-2 for review
Photographs of the reel tag and jacket legend are the fastest route to a review. Approximate footage is acceptable; a stated method is better than a confident guess.

URD / USE-2 — questions sellers ask
Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.
Do you review cable that has been dug up?
Yes, described as recovered underground cable. Expect a different review from new surplus: jacket abrasion, soil adhesion and unknown service history all affect the outcome. Photograph the jacket along its length, not just at the ends.
Is URD the same as USE-2?
No. URD is a distribution assembly, often with a concentric neutral; USE-2 is a single-conductor direct-burial cable. Many products are dual-rated, but the print on the jacket is the authority, and we review from that.
Can triplex and quadruplex be quoted together?
Yes, separated by configuration and size. Note the number of assemblies and an approximate length for each, since these are usually measured rather than tagged.
WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL
Where this material usually comes from
Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.
