SER and SEU Service Cable Buyers in New York
Service entrance cable is ordered to a specific service size and is almost never ordered twice the same way. The result is a familiar surplus pattern: two reels of 4/0 aluminum SER left after a service was upsized, or a partial reel of 2/0 SEU from a panel change that never happened.
WHAT WE REVIEW
SER / SEU: what we review
SER is a multi-conductor assembly with a bare neutral or a full-size insulated neutral depending on configuration; SEU is the older two-conductor-with-bare-neutral style used for single-phase services. Both are 600 V assemblies, commonly aluminium in larger sizes and copper in smaller ones, and both are reviewed on conductor count, size and footage rather than on the label alone.
Because service cable is flat or round and often stored coiled rather than on a reel, footage is the hard part. Measure the coil, count the wraps where the cable is visible, and note the original coil length if the packaging label survives. If the cable has been cut into tails, measure each tail. We would rather quote four measured tails than one optimistic guess.
Formats accepted for review
- Factory reels of SER in original wrap
- Coils of SEU with the original label
- Cut tails from a service change, measured individually
- Overstock service cable from a distributor
What to send
- Conductor count and neutral configuration
- Size and metal, printed on the jacket and visible at the ends
- Footage, measured or taken from the coil label
- Whether the jacket has been cut back for terminations
No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

Send ser / seu for review
Photographs of the reel tag and jacket legend are the fastest route to a review. Approximate footage is acceptable; a stated method is better than a confident guess.

SER / SEU — questions sellers ask
Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.
Can service cable with stripped ends be reviewed?
Yes. Cut-back jackets are normal on installed-and-removed cable. Photograph the stripped ends so the conductor size and strand count are visible, and note how much jacket remains.
Is SEU still useful, or only SER?
SEU remains in use for single-phase services and is reviewed on its own merits. It is less flexible in application than SER, which is reflected in how quickly it can be placed rather than in whether we will look at it.
What footage do you need to make a review worthwhile?
There is no fixed threshold, but freight economics matter: a single short tail rarely justifies a move, while a full reel or a bundle of long tails often does. Submit what you have and we will say which side of that line it falls on.
WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL
Where this material usually comes from
Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.

Send the tag, the jacket print and an approximate count. If the material is a fit, price and logistics are agreed in writing before anything is loaded.
