BARE COPPER · SOFT DRAWN · GROUNDING · 6 AWG – 500 MCM
Bare Copper Wire Buyers in New York
Bare copper is grounding conductor, and it accumulates in the odd increments that grounding work produces: a spool of 2/0 left after a service, several coils of 6 AWG from a ground ring, a partial spool of 250 MCM from a substation ground grid.
WHAT WE REVIEW
Bare copper: what we review
Bare copper is reviewed on size, temper, strand count and form. Soft-drawn stranded conductor in 2 through 4/0 is the common commercial and industrial grounding stock; solid sizes down to 14 AWG appear in smaller work; large MCM bare copper shows up in ground grids and equipment bonding. Because there is no insulation to inspect, condition is judged on oxidation, kinking and whether the spool has been dragged.
Bare copper is also the category most often mixed with scrap. We are not a scrap yard and do not quote by weight sight-unseen: a spool of tagged, unused grounding conductor is a different material from a tangled coil of offcuts. Tell us which you have and photograph the spool label if there is one.
Formats accepted for review
- Factory spools with labels intact
- Partial spools from a service or ground grid
- Coils of solid grounding conductor
- Cut lengths sorted by size
What to send
- Size and strand count, from the spool label or a caliper check
- Whether the conductor is bare, tinned or coated
- Spool label and manufacturer, if present
- Whether the copper is bright or heavily oxidised
No offer is made until someone has read the jacket legend or the reel tag. If neither survives, the material is still reviewable — it is simply reviewed as unidentified, and the outcome reflects that.

Photographs of the reel tag and jacket legend are the fastest route to a review. Approximate footage is acceptable; a stated method is better than a confident guess.

Bare copper — questions sellers ask
Answers describe how material is reviewed. They are not an offer, a price or a commitment to purchase.
Do you buy bare copper by weight?
Weight matters for logistics, but the review is based on the material: size, form, condition and whether it is usable conductor. Untagged tangled offcuts are reviewed as such, and the outcome reflects that.
Is tinned copper handled differently?
It is a distinct product, usually for corrosive or high-temperature environments. Identify it as tinned and photograph the surface; it should not be mixed into a bare copper count.
Can grounding conductor from a demolished service be submitted?
Yes, if it was legally released and you are authorised to sell it. Describe how it was removed and expect a recovered-material review.
WHO SELLS THIS MATERIAL
Where this material usually comes from
Most lots arrive from one of four places: a contractor closing out a job, a plant replacing equipment, a distributor clearing slow stock, or a demolition project releasing cable legitimately. Each is reviewed on the same facts.
